Background
Barratt East Scotland Ltd has used the expertise provided by L&H Safety & Environmental Management for numerous large-scale residential projects across the Scottish Capital City and beyond. These include the prestigious Western Harbour site in Leith Docks, the Rosebank development on Broughton Road and the brown-field development at Sapphire Point in Lochend Road.
The Challenge
Sapphire Point was built on the site of a 1950’s bakery, which was demolished to make way for the new building. In it’s place Barratt have built 151 modern housing units, most of which were sold long before the construction work was safely completed. This project required the careful demolition and preparation of a site heavily contaminated with asbestos, flour dust and heavy metals.
The Solution
By instigating a stringent consultation period and pro-active process planning, L&H Safety & Environmental Management was able to assist the client with the selection of the right contractor with the necessary competence to safely and successfully undertake this hazardous phase of the project without disruption to the project timescale.
