The Challenge
The client required L&H to deliver this rural project within a tight programme. This challenging project involved demolition, asbestos, old agricultural chemicals the relocation of an electrical substation and overhead power lines. It required L&H Safety & Environmental Management to fundamentally understand the issues involved, identify the risks and provide the remedies - thinking Safety from day one.
The Solution
Although the plan was originally to locate the welfare facilities within a compound next to the overhead power lines, following the hazard and risk identified within the pre-construction phase H&S Plan, it was decided that the welfare facilities could be re-located to an unused farmhouse nearby. As well as a significant risk reduction, there was also a substantial cost saving to both the Principal Contractor and Client from this arrangement. It also minimised the disturbance and impact on the main campus. Significant Occupational Health and Safety hazards were also avoided through careful planning and constant liaison with all stakeholders.
